Overview:</h3>
Most kids would do anything to pass the Iron Trial. Not Callum Hunt. He wants to fail. All his life, Call has been warned by his father to stay away from magic. If he succeeds at the Iron Trial and is admitted into the Magisterium, he is sure it can only mean bad things for him. So he tries his best to do his worst - and fails at failing. Now the Magisterium awaits him. It's a place that's both sensational and sinister, with dark ties to his past and a twisty path to his future.<br />

<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Overview:</h3>
In the real world, when you vanish into thin air for a week, people tend to notice.<br />
<br />
After his unexpected journey into the lands of the fey, Ethan Chase just wants to get back to normal. Well, as "normal" as you can be when you see faeries every day of your life. Suddenly the former loner with the bad reputation has someone to try for-his girlfriend, Kenzie. Never mind that he's forbidden to see her again.<br />
<br />
But when your name is Ethan Chase and your sister is one of the most powerful faeries in the Nevernever, "normal" simply isn't to be. For Eathan's nephew, Keirran, is missing, and may be on the verge of doing something unthinkable in the name of saving his own love. Something that will fracture the human and faery worlds forever, and give rise to the dangerous fey known as the Forgotten. As Ethan's and Keirran's fates entwine and Keirran slips further into darkness, Ethan's next choice may decide the fate of them all.<br />

Overview:</h3>
Don't look at them. Never let them know you can see them. That is Ethan Chase's unbreakable rule.<br />
<br />
Until the fey he avoids at all costs - including his reputation - begin to disappear, and Ethan is attacked. Now he must change the rules to protect his family. To save a girl he never thought he'd dare to fall for.<br />
<br />
Ethan thought he had protected himself from his older sister's world - the land of Faery. His previous time in the Iron Realm left him with nothing but fear and disgust for the world Meghan Chase has made her home, a land of myth and talking cats, of magic and seductive enemies. But when destiny comes for ethan, there is no escape from a danger long, long forgotten.<br />
<br />
MY NAME IS ETHAN CHASE. AND I MAY NOT LIVE TO SEE MY EIGHTEENTH BIRTHDAY.<br />

<h3 style="text-align: left;">
Overview:</h3>
<div>
<div>
My name - my true name - is Ashallayn' Darkmyr Tallyn. I am the last remaining son of Mab, Queen of the Unseelie court. And I am dead to her.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My fall began, as many stories do, with a girl...to cold faery prince Ash, love was a weakness for mortals and fools. His own love had died a horrible death, killing any gentler feelings the winter prince might have had. Or so he thought.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Then Meghan Chase - a half human, half fey slip of a girl - smashed through his barricades, binding him to her irrevocably with his oath to be her knight. And when all of Faery nearly fell to the iron fey, she severed their bond to save his life. Meghan is now the Iron Queen, ruler of a realm where no Winter or Summer fey can survive.</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
With the unwelcome company of his archrival, Summer Court prankster Puck, and the infurating cait sith Grimalkin, Ash begins a journey he is bound to see through to its end - a quest to find a way to honor his vow to stand by Meghan's side. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
To survive in the Iron Realm, Ash must have a soul and a mortal body. But the tests he must face to earn these things are impossible. And along the way Ash learns something that changes everything. A truth that challenges his darkest beliefs and shows him that, sometimes, it takes more than courage to make the ultimate sacrifice.</div>

<div>
My name is Meghan Chase.</div>
<div>

I thought it was over. That my time with the fey, the impossible choices I had to make, the sacrifices of those I loved, was behind me. But a storm is approaching, an army of Iron fey that will drag me back, kicking and screaming. Drag me away from the banished prince who's sworn to stand by my side. Drag me into the core of conflict so powerful, I'm not sure anyone can survive it.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This time, there will be no turning back.<br />
<br /></div>

Overview:</h3>
<div>
Half Summer Faery Princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere.<br />
<br />
Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron fey-ironbound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's stuck in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart.<br />

Overview:</h3>
Meghan Chase has a secret destiny - one she could never have imagined...<br />
<br />
Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school...or at home.<br />
<br />
When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.<br />
<br />
But she could never have guessed the truth-that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face...and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.<br />

Review: </h3>
<br />
This book brings in a whole new side to the world of the Fey. With the grand ideas that Kagawa enlists in her writing, it is a surefire win for all. My recommendation is for readers who are a bit older and able to sit down through a lengthy story plot, typically those in age from 7+ should be able to follow the twists that go on in this book. There are some slightly gruesome scenes that I would suggest a higher age range of <b>at least 9+</b> to be the target-able age for this book. As always, this is at the discretion of the parent and their knowledge of their own children.<br />
<br />
This story takes flight quickly with the usual normal girl is quickly thrust into a seemingly impossible world, and we as readers learn along with her as she makes mistakes, gets thrown around, and all around follows the rabbit hole to where it leads. At first, I was honestly quite worried that this would bore me easily, since it follows the average step by step of the more recent fantasy writings. I didn't expect this.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What a wonderful surprise that someone has decided to create! Everyone who has read a book involving fairies as a main race in their book knows that the fey folk of legend are deathly allergic to all things iron. This is where Kagawa blows us out of the water, what if, like everything in the world of make-believe, the things of our imagination has changed enough to create a new race of fey? What if our new found worship of technology created a generation of fey who are not allergic to iron, but rather are born from it? Magic. This is what happens when you decide to think out of the box! Welcome to my newest favorite series! The Iron Fey! </div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Hello my dear readers, </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I am sorry that it has been so long since we last spoke together, but I promise, I NEVER forgot you!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I have been dedicating my time to schoolwork and baby-rearing. Little Lilly just turned one this past Thursday. I promise photos are coming! She celebrated in true Princess fashion, as her theme was Princess Sofia the First. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Back to the real story, I told you all last year that I would be coming back in August of this year so that I could focus fully on the new balance of my house with a husband working far away and two children instead of only one as I knuckled down on my final years of schooling before earning my Bachelor's degree. I am happy to report that I succeeded in staying on my timeline! I will be starting my Student Teaching this fall and, should everything go perfectly, I will be gradating in December! *insert happy dance, or rather crazy spastic twitching that I call dancing* </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I have a full month ahead with my coming back review bang, I will have at least three different reviews up on the blog this month and at least two next month. I am still juggling a lot but I promise to review as quickly as I can. Even though I stopped posting my reviews, I never stopped reading so I have a nice stash of books to review for you...I may even go crazy and post two per month..not sure yet. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Again thank you to all of you reading this, you make my day worth it.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Where do I start? So as you already know, I am pregnant. I have been battling with hormonal issues throughout the pregnancy and well...you guessed it, they haven't stopped. I had little baby Lilly on July 28, 2016 weighing 6 pounds and 1 ounce. No, she was not premature, she is, as most of my family is, skinny. It has been nearly three weeks since her glorious arrival and as of a week ago, I had to make the very hard confession that I felt nothing towards her. The magical "bond" of mother and child never happened and I had waited two weeks. I knew this was wrong, heck, I was more emotional about having no emotions towards her, or for that matter anyone at all. I cried more thinking about how the only thing I felt was obligation to feed and change her but nothing else. I knew I ran a high chance of postpartum depression, but I hadn't quite prepared for this.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I tell you this for two reasons. The first is to banish any thoughts that postpartum is anything like normal depression, it isn't, or rather, it isn't like that for everyone. The second reason is to explain why I haven't been on and why I will be taking a year off of writing to all of you lovely readers. I will come back in August 2016. I might take time out here and there to write a review for some of my big hitters through this next year, but for the most part, I will be taking time to focus on my relationship with my family. I have worked hard over this past summer to keep on track for my graduation schedule and *fingers crossed* I should be graduating from Texas A&M in Corpus Christi by December of 2016.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
So maybe not too noticeable, for most, but for some avid readers out there, you'll notice I've been slightly absent lately...well I apologize. I found out in November that I was expecting my second child, and with the holidays, graduation, and my sisters wedding, I have had quite a load on my shoulders plus having my three year old and returning to school in January and of course, my wonderful husband. He provides beautifully for us, but at a cost...he has to live two hours away for work and only gets to come home every other weekend. This has been going on a year now, and while we have all grown accustomed to it, it is only made harder through the pregnancy. Currently, we are actually waiting to hear back to find out if there are going to be any more layoffs in his bracket of the company, and if there are any more, if he will be one of them. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
With the start of the new school year (or rather, the new year and a new semester), I started a new school, which means that the program I had my son in for daycare was no longer accessible since it was through the college I was previously attending, and since I was no longer a student there, I had a need to find a new daycare. My search began in November, and through December and January I took a break from applying for assistance and trying to find a program for him because of the stress levels of the holidays as well as my sisters wedding. In February I resumed my search and found a place I was quite happy to enroll him into, and things were looking up for us to get him into the school. However, the day I went to visit for a walk-through and fill out paperwork, they lost a teacher, and that same day happened to fall on the same day another teacher had set as the last day of her two weeks notice. So they no longer had space available for my son to enroll with a staff shortage. Plus, thanks to a great, but annoyingly slow, new law, they had to run not only a criminal background check on any and all new applicants for the positions, but they also had to run a formal FBI background check as well. This is a wonderful safety feature that the state put into place as of January this year, however with all the daycare providers in the LARGE state of Texas, and only one company that can run the FBI checks in that state...well there was quite a large backlog. So I had to start my search again, getting lucky that one daycare happened to have a student who had told them they were leaving that month (military family moving away) and thus, my son could take his spot. "HURRAY!" I thought this was the best thing in the world for me. I not only was exited for that, but I was also happy cause they had video feeds from each of the rooms so that my husband could look in and see our son at any time. We enrolled him halfway through February, and he seemed ok at first, the normal anxiety issues arose and I was dealing with them as they came...but soon things became apparent that they were more than just simple separation anxiety issues. He quickly started asking which school he was going to, his "Old school with Ms. Erin." or his "New School." when I answered the new one, he would begin a temper tantrum and be afraid, saying, "I don't like my teacher. She's mean. She puts everyone in time out." I was worried at this point that my son had gotten in trouble and didn't want me to know what he had done wrong, so I asked the teacher, and she said that other students had gotten in trouble but not him so I shrugged it off....but it persisted, same set of woes each morning and I began to watch the video feeds more often....I started to notice that the teacher played favorites to some students, braiding hair and such and other students were persona-non-grata with her, where she seemed to send them to their desks all the time....unfortunately, the cameras were never able to see the table my son was at because the whole month and a half that he was enrolled, they couldn't fix the ONE camera that was improperly positioned. Other little issues arose, like I realized that each day, the students were trying to practice handwriting, but the teacher never really helped any of them....most of the time each day was spent literally sitting at their desks with a pencil and a paper with their name in traceable letters and do nothing else...for HOURS...these are three year old children with short attention spans and a high need for movement....this was not okay...and the more I noticed it the more upset I began to become. I would ask questions to the teacher daily to see what they had done in the day and then repeat those questions to my son and get totally different answers (mind you, he's three, so memory isn't that perfect) plus what I had seen for the day on video and it just never added up. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I re-applied in March for a government assistance program for my son to get childcare at a discount because of our income amounts and how much my husband works and I go to school. It was a bit of a bumpy ride, we were denied at first because the oldest check (out of four) was quite sizable due to holiday pay, overtime, and such...but the thing was, his hours had been cut the paycheck after due to cutbacks in the company...so it wasn't a true reflection of our income....so since we were only two days away from a new paycheck we decided to re-apply with the new paycheck and see if we would be approved. I spoke informally to the director of the daycare's husband about applying for assistance and he informed me that they might have already reached capacity for the program, to which I began looking again for a daycare, first reviewing the ones I had already looked into and found that the daycare I had originally wanted him to enter was now enrolling again and that they could fit him into their classroom as soon as I was ready. This gave me a great out for getting my son out of the class with that teacher, and into a new class with a better curriculum. When it came to the assistance program, it was a bit rocky getting the paperwork revisited because it all landed during the beginning of April and glorious Good Friday, but as of this morning I was approved! Happy to get to move to a shorter income, I called to the daycare that my son was at, to let them know what was going on and before I could even finish my sentence, the director cut me off telling me that they had no room for him to attend on the assistance program. I informed her that I had heard that that might be the case from her husband and that we had looked into another place and found an opening and since we were already accepted we were going to move him into it right away to start the transition, hence why he hadn't been present by attendance time. I asked her about the photos that were taken at the end of the previous month and when they would be available to view, she was kind and courteous with her reply and said I could come by anytime to pick up the remainder of my son's belongings. I had to run one more errand (dropping my son off at the new daycare) and then I would be there, and once I arrived, the clothes were sitting on the counter for any and all to just grab and go....however, I had wanted to talk to her a bit before I left, because I wanted to be sure she was aware of the situation, because when I went to the new daycare to drop my son off, the anxiety and issues he displayed were worried over by the teachers and not only them, but the office faculty as well. I spoke with them about how he had been acting and what I had seen on video and their intimidate response was for me to go to licensing and have them investigated. So that I wouldn't step on her toes by not talking to her about it and allowing her to try and fix the issue first, I tried to talk to her....big mistake.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
My pregnancy has my hormones at a constant roller-coaster feeling of up and down and all around. I started off by saying that "I wanted to talk to you 'cause my son has been having some issues in the class lately, and I was going to talk to you about it either way today even if he hadn't moved to a new daycare." she immidately switched to an offensive stance and began with how I had taken an "attitude" to her worker about not being able to apply bug repellent and that <i>that</i> was the true root of my issues not anything they had done. Confused, I tried to understand what she was talking about and remembered an incident about a week or two prior when my son had gotten slightly pink (he is very fair) from being out in the sun. I had asked at the time about applying sunscreen before playtime and they had shut me down saying that it was against state policy to apply sunscreen. I scoffed at this because the previous daycare had not just applied it, but had required it. So I could see how that might have been percieved as attitude, and I quickly corrected the director saying, "No, that wasn't what I was trying to talk about, in fact, I had actually completely forgotten about that already. I was wanting to talk to you because my son has been having a higher anxiety about going to school each day and I wanted to try and address the situation." I then explained about his not liking his teacher, and his tantrums and with each sentence, she cut me off to give me either an excuse such as "None of the other kids have any issues with this teacher." or that "He never acts that way while he's here." or something else that (I believe) was meant to cut me off an shut me up, and it was starting to slightly work because it was becoming more tiresome to try and explain the situation than to just walk away and leave it alone. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I went on however and remarked on the issue that was most recent, the issue that I had already touched on the previous week. On Thursday, I had talked to her about how my son (when I picked him up) had his pants unbuttoned and unzipped, and without prompting from me, had informed me that his teacher had ignored him several times when he asked for assistance in buttoning and zipping the pants, telling him that she was "busy at the moment" and to "go sit down." and when I picked him up from daycare that day, they had combined the remaining children into one classroom to watch a movie and the teacher was finishing clean up in their regular room, while the director was watching the children watching TV. They were in that room for 30 minutes and no one noticed that my son's pants were unbuttoned or unzipped. (Mind you I don't believe that he drew attention to this issue anymore) and according to the director, he hadn't gone to the restroom during the time spent with her. So that tells me that <i>his</i> teacher was the one to ignore and send him away, and the fact that they were still unbuttoned and unzipped, proved that he wasn't lying. (Which my son doesn't really lie, he just deflects) When I started this topic, the director switched gears telling me that the reason he acted this way wasn't the fault of the daycare and "Everybody always wants to blame the daycare, but really the problems are usually something at home, like<i> </i><b style="font-style: italic;">your pregnancy</b>," where she pointed at my belly and began to walk away exasperated, saying that "his anxiety might also stem from the fact that <i style="font-weight: bold;">his father isn't ever around</i>." That last one pissed me off, but the pregnancy one hit a high probability for his actions. I noted to her that my husband had been working this job longer than my son had been going to school at all, and that she had a point that the pregnancy might be a factor. However, I was no longer in the mood to try to "talk" with her since obviously she was unwilling to listen. Yet somehow, she felt like this was the time to interject with "I only take in the minimum requirement of government assistance program kids because it's just not worth it for me money wise. That and <b>all the parents in those programs feel entitled, and complain all the time.</b>" Talking as if I wasn't even there, or that I wasn't just accepted into this program and insinuating that the only reason I was complaining now was because I was part of the program. Then she just said the last straw for me, but I felt I had to keep composure because I was going to have to come back later this week to get my photos of my son. She said, "All these government supported families just look for handouts and expect the rest of the world to take care of them, and if anything in their life goes wrong they blame those who are helping them rather than look at how their broken family and unkempt household are really to blame." With that...I was done. I kept myself from lashing out and thanked her for her time, saying I'd see her on Thursday to get my photos. I went to my car and cried, I was so mad I bawled my eyes out, then because I was crying I was even more mad. HOW DARE SHE!! I called my husband, and he said that she was just lucky that he wasn't there or she would have been regretting it. He also said that he would try to get out of work early enough on Thursday to be there with me to get the photos and give her a piece of his mind. I calmed down, got another errand done, and cried another two times. I have to say, this pregnancy has me crying a lot....but really, I think I would have cried at least once anyway even if I wasn't pregnant. Needless to say, I'm going to call licensing anyway....</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So as some of you already know, I've been attending the local junior college for the past few years. Well I've gone and done it now, I'm graduating! I'll be walking the stage on December 12, 2014 and a few of my graduation buddies got together with me to decorate our caps for graduation. It was a bit last minute and while I had already planned on decorating it after seeing last summer's commencement, I didn't have a CLUE what to decorate it like. So, after a day of Pinterest pins and Google searches, I found about 50 cute ideas, but none of them seemed to fit just right for me. I turned to my friends and asked for help in this and said, "I need something that screams ME and I see bunches of little things that say me in a soft voice, but I just need something to say that I'm a jack of all trades..."then a short breath and I realized as I was speaking the words that I had just come up with the saying for it as I finished, "...and I'm finally mastering one!" since my original thought was to finish the generic phrase of a master of none, I realized that I <b>was</b> mastering one of them. It was an epiphany of epic proportions and I still smile as I recount the simple yet easy fix to my problem. I searched online after this was finished and found NO results for a cap decoration with this wording. I am the first and I am seriously proud of it! lol </div>

<br />
Overview:<br />
Now that Septimus, Jenna, and Beetle are fourteen years old, they have assumed larger roles in their Magykal world. Beetle has become the Cheief Hermetic Scribe of the Manuscriptorium and Jenna is waiting to be crowned Queen, but Septimus is still battling the remnants of the Darke Domaine, which will remain until the power of the evil Two-Faced Ring is destroyed forever. To accomplish that, the ancient Alchemie Fyre must be relit-a task that sends Septimus to the very origins of Magyk and Physik, testing both his skills and his loyalties to ExtraOrdinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand and Alchemist Marcellus Pye.<br />
<br />
In a journey that encapsulates the entire Septimus Heap series, Septimus continues to discover who he is and to expand upon his Magykal power and skills. Septimus Heap, Book Seven: Fyre weaves together every singular character from the entire series and incorporates many of the Magykal places from each book. Written with Angie Sage's distinctive humor and heart, Fyre is the grand finale that celebrates the greatest Magyk of all: When the Fyre inside is kindled and when the Time Is Right, anything is possible.<br />

Review: <br />
For those of you who insist on reading the review on this one without reading the review for the previous books,<b> this is a children's book, I recommend ages 7+ for the earlier books, but this book should be placed at a 9+ or possibly even more, but keep in mind this is a very long book, and best read with an adult.</b> It contains "Old English" and thus might confuse some adults, let alone children. To read the previous book reviews: Please Select the image for<b><span style="color: red;"> <a href="http://raschel-reads.blogspot.com/2014/03/magyk-septimus-heap-book-1-by-angie-sage.html">Magyk for book 1</a></span></b>, Darke for book 6, and Syren for book 5.<br />
<br />
Now, onto the review! Fyre, is a bit harder to handle than Darke or Queste were, because of the amount of death that accompanies this book. I would actually recommend that you just read it yourself before bringing it in front of your child, just to be safe. There are scenes where disfigurement is noted on two of the characters, as well as bringing up how a set of wizards kill several people and that some of the beloved characters come to an end in this book, but luckily, those characters are let go of peacefully. The more disturbing ones are more centrally located when the two wizards (whom I will leave you to find out yourself) first appear in full and leave a wake of a few bodies.<br />
<br />

<br />
Angie Sage, wonderful writer that she is, gets yet another set of happy hearts, she fulfills all the needed points of character development, mystery to even experienced readers such as myself, as well as scene ambiance. She never ends a book without tying up all loose ends of minor characters so that you know what has happened to every person whom you ever meet in her worlds. Her books are morals based, and help children to critically think about how to handle a situation and how to determine self reliant skills to know how to make hard choices and what would be the better route to take in a difficult situation.<br />

<br />
Review: <br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
For those of you who insist on reading the review on this one without reading the review for the previous books, my age suggestion is going to<b> be around 9+, but I do recommend, as I did for the last book, that the parent read over the book to help know what your child does and doesn't understand or might be fearful of.</b> It contains "Old English" and thus might confuse some adults, let alone children. To read the previous book reviews: Please Select the image for <span style="color: red;"><b>Magyk</b></span> <b><span style="color: red;">for book 1</span></b>, Queste for book 4, and Queste for book 4. In this book there are points where Septimus encounters a Dark(e) Dragon who is quite ferocious, evil spirits, and even a skeleton. <b><span style="font-size: large;">This is not what I would say works for ALL 7 year olds as the last books have...so I might suggest that it would do better in the hands of a 9+ child rather than the 7+</span></b> <span style="font-size: large;"><b>but it is again, up to the parent to decide what your child can or can't handle. </b></span></div>
<br />
Now, onto the review! Darke, is just about as hard to handle as Queste was, because of the amount of "Darke" things in store during the whole book actually.<br />
<br />
Merrin Meredith, or as he likes to remember himself still as the "Real Septimus Heap" due to his upbringing by DomDaniel, is at it again. Trying to thwart the life that Septimus has feeling like it should be his glory and happiness and that the "rotten boy" has stolen it all from him. His hatred for Septimus, and all Heaps, is furthered by Simon's anger issues being placed on him. With the help of a dark(e) book stolen from Simon/DomDaniel and the two-faced ring, he decides to find yet another way to attack Septimus and rid himself of all Heap family members. At the start of the book, you find Marcia trying to permanently rid the castle of Tertius Fume once and for all, but in the process, she also sends Alther Mella.<br />
<br />
As Septimus' training continues, he reaches his Dark(e) week, where he decides that it is time for him to save Alther from the banishing he was accidentally pulled into. This is a task not taken lightly, and is something that only Extraordinary Wizards (and their apprentices) go through, it is what separates them from the Ordinary Wizards. As if that isn't enough, its birthday time for Jenna and Septimus! Though the question is put out there that maybe Septimus is actually past his birthday due to the 6 months spent in the past before Jenna arrived. Marcia and Marcellus are still at odds with each other because of the whole "kidnapping" bit, as well as their unrelenting need to stand taller than the other as they compete for who TRULY has Septimus as an apprentice.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGoqc8MSUGonXQ8PEAgKtIg6jlg4A8GiyWe6chLh6VDLBshkG7Hgp_6JuRb9faU6gkh5L7R6skalEbGZTZ79mj9yIxkYvaK2BWcFj-mNt-b2F7s2KWdrXKQ-k-Els2bUhSXiKqPKYEO8sd/s1600/5Stars.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGoqc8MSUGonXQ8PEAgKtIg6jlg4A8GiyWe6chLh6VDLBshkG7Hgp_6JuRb9faU6gkh5L7R6skalEbGZTZ79mj9yIxkYvaK2BWcFj-mNt-b2F7s2KWdrXKQ-k-Els2bUhSXiKqPKYEO8sd/s1600/5Stars.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This book receives a full 5 heart embrace, it has a beautiful presentation and the plot-line is, as always, a wonderful set of morals to abide by. Learning to deal with those who have wronged you, mending bonds with family members, as well as learning to take a break and breathe after a long and busy time of work are all great things that Sage brings up in her stories. She continues to amaze by the different styles of her writing and the character development and growth as they age from book to book. You see budding romances but are also able to see romantic flops along the way. It is an overall great book to read, and without cursing and/or sexual content, it really is great for younger children.<br />

Septimus ends up on a captivating beautiful island. He's stranded there with his badly injured dragon, Spit Fyre, along with Jenna and Beetle. There are some strange things about the island, including a Magykal girl named Syrah, a lighthouse that has lost its Light, and an eerie presence that sings to Septimus - can he escape the persistent call?<br />
<br />
Trouble is also brewing for Lucy and Wolf Boy, who have become entangle with nefarious sailors at sea, and for Milo Banda, Jenna's father, who is harboring a mysterious treasure chest in his ship's hold..<br />

Review: <br />
For those of you who insist on reading the review on this one without reading the review for the previous books, this is a children's book,<b> I recommend ages 7+ for the initial books, but this (just like the previous book) might need to go up in age. Please keep in mind this is a very long book, and best read with an adult.</b> It contains "Old English" and thus might confuse some adults, let alone children. To read the previous book reviews: Please Select the image for<b><span style="color: red;"> Magyk for book 1</span></b>, Pysik for book 3, and Queste for book 4.<br />
<br />
Syren, is a delves even deeper than Queste did with its reaches into scary, possibly nightmarish things. Now, in no way am I saying the book is like the grim reaper scary, but to warn you there are some parts where the idea of possession comes into play and this thought can be quite intimidating to younger children.<b> I know my initial review for Magyk was to be for 7+ but like Queste, I would actually say that this book moves up in scale for children 9+</b>. Again, I recommend that parents pre-read chapters that they will read to their children. I will assume, since I am no longer physically reading the books, but rather listening to the audiobooks, that the Old English is still a point of learning for children. Please be sure to explain to your child that not all spellings in this book are the correct current spellings.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
This book received a very grand 5 stars, this would be because I am no longer actually seeing the Old English spellings and twitching every few seconds, so I was able to thoroughly enjoy the book. The character development with Beetle across these books is beautifully woven into his growing up and having <i>feelings</i> for someone. Now, I won't give away who or if anything happens! But I will say that it stays G for the entire book. So no worries that your child will be overly exposed to romantic episodes. That being said, there are a few new characters introduced in this book, and some that were slightly touched on in previous books are also brought in and to the front lines. These characters do well for both the story arch, as well as giving the reader someone else to focus on rather than always paying attention to Septimus and his adventures, but not taking away from his adventures either. More like a small reprieve. This story did a wonderful job of surprising me, (which doesn't happen often) and puts good morals into view. I would absolutely recommend this book to be a read, as I have recommended all its predecessors.<br />

Review: <br />
For those of you who insist on reading the review on this one without reading the review for the previous books,<b> this is a children's book, I recommend ages 7+ for the initial books, but this book does get a little deeper into dark items. Please keep in mind this is a very long book, and best read with an adult.</b> It contains "Old English" and thus might confuse some adults, let alone children. To read the previous book reviews: Please Select the image for <b><span style="color: red;">Magyk for book 1</span></b>, Flyte for book 2, and Pysik for book 3.<br />
<br />
Now, onto the review! Queste, is a bit harder to handle than Physik was, because of the amount of "Darke" things in store during the whole book actually. I would actually recommend that you just read it yourself before bringing it in front of your child, just to be safe. <b>I would actually say that this book moves up in scale for children 9+ just because of the deep shadow figures that they could conjure up in their minds.</b><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This book does get a full five hearts however. I was able to listen solely to the audiobook, which makes a large difference in the making of the atmosphere. Gerard Doyle is a wonderful narrator and I would actually recommend that you check out some of his other work as well. He sets a smooth tone, but isn't afraid to give attitude and frustration to his characters as he reads them. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In Queste, you are introduced to several new areas of this world that Sage has created and it allows you to see everything all over again, the scenery that she creates is actually quite well drawn out without being boringly explained. It allows your imagination to take over where needed, but gives you enough so that the person sitting next to you reading Quest will have a mostly similar mental visualization of the same area that you do. The characters are growing up! This means that they are developing habits, mannerisms, and quirks that are present in this book more than the previous ones. These things aren't dominating nor are they scarce, they are just the perfect medium blend of character spice. So overall I do recommend this book (as well as its audio partner) to be read (listened to).</div>

Now, onto the review! Physik, is a bit harder to handle than Flyte was, while the Witches in the Port Witch Coven are a bit hard to handle, and a bother or two might get you down, here we actually travel to a totally different time and the idea of having to deal with a cat that turns into a panther at night might very well scare some children. <br />
Sage still uses far too much Old English for my English Major brain to handle without having a spasm that doesn't stop on my face so I prefer to listen to the audio book (plus it is much easier when you have a three year old and school vying for your attentions!) So again I give it a four hearted review. Some people may disagree that it still deserves the full five hearts simply because the storyline is so well written and explainable that the spelling is easy to get past. I don't agree, but then again that is my OPINION! *Note, I say this because every so often I must remind my readers, that this is an opinions blog and therefore not a fact that this book can only ever be a four heart review, it simply means that is how <i>I </i>feel.*<br />

Overview:<br />
It's been a year since Septimus Heap discovered his real family and true calling to be a wizard. As Apprentice to Extra Ordinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand, he is learning the fine arts of Conjurations, Charms, and other Magyk, while Jenna is adapting to life as the Princess and enjoying the freedom of the Castle.<br />
<br />
But there is something sinister at work. Marcia is constantly trailed by a menacing Darke Shadow, and Septimus's brother Simon seems bent on revenge. Why is the Darke Magyk still lingering?<br />

<br />
Review: <br />
For those of you who insist on reading the review on this one without reading the review for the previous book, this is a children's book, <b>I recommend ages 7+</b> but keep in mind this is a very long book, and best read with an adult. It contains "Old English" and thus might confuse some adults, let alone children.<br />
<br />
Sage does it again, creating an interwoven story that tells a tale of adventure, fear, pain and triumph, and overall teaches a great lesson. Don't give up! By now you should have read <b><span style="color: red;">Magyk</span></b>, but in case you haven't, there is a link at the bottom to its review and you should stop reading <b><u>here</u></b>. Seriously, stop reading. In the last book you learn the true identity of Septimus Heap and Jenna, or Princess Jenna. You also follow the Darke Wizard, DomDaniel, which is quite grotesquely shown at the end of the book as a skeleton that rises from the marsh. *shudder* that freaked ME out and I am an adult. <br />
This book gets a solid four heart review. I love the world created, but from book one to book two, you start seeing more and more "Old English" popping up and it can become a bit tiresome. I personally switched to audiobook at this time so as to avoid constant eye twitching each time words were spelled "wrong" You can follow in my footsteps, or you can teach your child how the English Language has evolved to not have an "E" on nearly every word's ending, or that usually a "Y" isn't needed in nearly every word either. That being said, I still think that the character development, as well as the dastardly deeds of a deranged delinquent (my choice of words not hers and I LIKE THEM :D Lol) are quite well written. You are able to watch as Princess Jenna, gets to grow feelings for the title she suddenly has, and how Septimus starts to learn that maybe Marcia Overstrand is a bit <u>Over</u> dramatic? Again, I suggest this read as a beautiful follow up to Magyk.<br />
<br />
Thanks for listening to my opinion!<br />

My son is three years old as of this moment in time! (I predated and scheduled this post to appear right now) I couldn't be more proud of how much he has grown and how well he speaks. His language skills as well as social skills are amazing to watch as he develops. Today he will be spending time with various family members and will enjoy a lot of sweets and presents. This is the reason I didn't post a mid-month review this month, and like before I will be doing a one-per-month review schedule due to summer school starting up soon. </div>

Overview:<br />
The seventh son of the seventh son, aptly named Septimus Heap, is stolen the night he is born by a midwife who pronounces him dead. That same night, the baby's father, Silas Heap, comes across a bundle in the snow containing a new born girl with violet eyes. The Heaps take this helpless newborn into their home, name her Jenna, and raise her as their own. But who is this mysterious baby girl, and what really happened to their beloved Septimus?<br />

Review: <br />
This book is a very well written children's book, and while I do believe that it is safe enough for children of all ages to read, I would have to believe that only children who are developed enough to sit down through very long stories would be able to actually comprehend and connect the dots to this lengthy, but beautifully woven piece of work. So I would have to say that this is a<b> 7+ book</b> and I say seven very loosely. Not all seven year olds will be able to handle the girth of this book, but for sure, they would enjoy having it slowly read to them night by night. Keep in mind however, that the Old English type, may very well have an affect on the child's development of spelling, and be sure to explain that to them thoroughly.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhKCEO34UVmWWDCnn_hhbTC34FNSe3MiED7W39cSptaLp_Q7d4azf_QXyK2Uih3t4ESOv9bMvq19J5NOCFVwwuQycFWcV4WOeQE5xELn3yjG5RfaDSjz2FYTRAR9Ij0B3771F3_ddOV1-E/s1600/4Stars.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhKCEO34UVmWWDCnn_hhbTC34FNSe3MiED7W39cSptaLp_Q7d4azf_QXyK2Uih3t4ESOv9bMvq19J5NOCFVwwuQycFWcV4WOeQE5xELn3yjG5RfaDSjz2FYTRAR9Ij0B3771F3_ddOV1-E/s1600/4Stars.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I will have to give this book four stars, as its length might very well be it's downfall in the younger readers category. However, the world Sage creates is unlike most I have ever read. It has an "old time" feel to it allowing for you to delve into the world and get lost in its ancient need for candle lights and the "Old English" spellings. I rather enjoyed the play on words that Sage brings into this world, giving a realistic feel to the time-frame she wants you to live in with the characters. The character development is phenomenal. She genuinely creates a hate for characters you're meant to hate (much like "Taddy Dearest" in the Celestra Series by Addison Moore and Dolores Umbridge in Harry Potter) as well as a respect for others. It's almost palpable the atmosphere she gives in the small details and the creation of different "unknowns" that aren't real items in this world, but, once explained, make absolute sense in the world of Septimus Heap.<br />
<br />
Thanks for listening to my opinion!<br />

<span style="background-color: white;">Overview:</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span>
<div style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; line-height: 18pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Claire Danvers is concerned when three
vampires vanish from Morganville without a trace. The last person seen with
them is someone new to town – a mysterious individual named Magnus. Claire is
convinced creepy Magnus isn’t human … but is he a vampire or something else
entirely?<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; line-height: 18pt; margin: 0in;">

<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span>
<div style="line-height: 18pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Claire’s hunt for answers leads her to solving
another mystery that’s long been puzzling her: why do vampires live so far out
in a sunny desert when they’re sensitive to sunlight? The answer has nothing to
do with sunlight, but with water – and an ancient enemy who has finally found a
way to invade the vampires’ landlocked community. Vampires aren’t the top
predator on earth. There’s something worse that preys on them … something much
worse. Which means if Claire, and Morganville, want to live, they will have to
fight on to the last breath…<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white;">Review: </span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span>
<div style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; line-height: 18pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="background-color: white;">This is one spooky description
and it doesn’t kill the thrill! So, Last Breath continues from where Bite Club
left off and from the beginning it manages to captivate the reader. Something
is definitely out of place in Morganville and gradually our heroes catch up
with the oddity. Moreover, there is too much personal drama this time around to
spark a lot of excitement. Last Breath is not for the idle reader. Somehow one
is kept guessing all the time, thus requiring a keen brain. One thing that
definitely makes it important to pay attention to detail is the close-knitted
plot. The devil lies in the detail and that’s what makes Last Breath incredibly
interesting. I believe that there is a term in author’s jargon about laying
clues here, there and everywhere for the reader to pick up and figure things
out, but, alas, I don’t know it, I just hope that you get the meaning.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 18pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Another factor that makes the
book very appealing is that we get the sequence of events from different
people. Even the author writes a small introductory note about this method of
narration. Although it isn’t a novelty for the series, this time around it’s
not just Claire and Shane whose point of perspective is used to tell the story,
but also Michael’s, Eve’s and –surprise, surprise – Amelie’s. For those fearing
that too many cooks will probably spoil the broth, rest assured: not only does
this formula works out, but it also help us readers to better evaluate and
understand our heroes. Once you get a person’s point of view, you get a glimpse
into their minds and that’s usually very illuminating. On the other hand, at
end you wouldn’t want the story to be told any other way. It really does make
sense why some parts need to be told by others than Claire.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 18pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 18pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="background-color: white;">In addition, we have a lot of
developments on the personal front for many characters. Drama alongside with
love is in the air, and not only for the usual suspects. This sparks a lot of
tension and anxiety. Along with the strangeness that occurs in everyday life in
Morganville our heroes’ private lives go through enough turmoil to make even
the more patient lose their cool. Somehow, the author manages to intertwine the
personal tension with the desperation and frustration of everyday life to
create an atmosphere of fear, desolation and uncertainty so vivid and colourful
that it transcends the pages and captivates the reader.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 18pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 18pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 18pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Finally, the author writes with
sincerity, compassion and humanity, even when she writes about the vampires.
Everyone is vulnerable and everyone has a breaking point. Whether they manage
to overcome their personal obstacles and fight back is a point debated many
times and treated with a lot of respect. Our heroes are people – be it humans
or vampires – and that is imperative for understanding the plot and following
up with everything that happens from page one till the last page.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 18pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 18pt; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Despite its complexity Last
Breath can be read by the uninitiated with success. The story has a fabulous
